There is so much exciting curriculum news it’s hard to keep up.

At Strathpine State School we are committed to developing the necessary skills within all our students to ensure they are prepared for a preferred future. We provide challenging and exciting learning opportunities for all our students. Our teachers use Curriculum into the Classroom to implement the Australian Curriculum. They plan, teach, assess and report on the Australian Curriculum in:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences)
  • Health and PE
  • The Arts
  • Technology
  • Language

We have a strong focus on the development of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. Our teachers and specialist staff provide a variety of activities that cater for the needs of all students.

A key feature of our school program is the daily 2 hour literacy block and 1 hour numeracy block.  During the Literacy Block, students are explicitly taught the skills of reading, writing and oracy.

Students are also taught critical literacy skills which will enable them to become informed, literate members of our society.  Our teachers dedicate a 1 hour numeracy block targeting important mathematical concepts and skills.

At Strathpine State School we have professional learning teams across the year levels who choose to take on the additional responsibility of driving whole school best practice and improvement initiatives in particular learning and professional practice areas.

These teams meet on a regular basis and engage with the most recent research to ensure that our teaching, learning, engagement and assessment practices are current and ensure the best possible outcomes for all students.

Through the initiatives of these teams this year we continue to achieve some fantastic outcomes.

  • A whole school targeted focus in writing.  Within this focus is the introduction and development of;
    • Write Now – a daily expectation where all students write to a particular focus and receive individual feedback from their teacher. These feedback session included a regular review and updating of individual writing goals for students.
    • Editing – a whole school editing expectation and template to facilitate clear expectations and meet the expectations of the Australian Curriculum.
  • A whole school targeted approach to reading.  Within this focus is the introduction and development of;
    • Individual reading goals for all students which are communicated home to parents.
    • A continued focus on comprehension – fortnightly comprehension strategy focus that is supported through modelled/shared reading and daily guided reading lessons.
  • A whole school targeted approach to numeracy. Within this focus is the introduction and development of;
    • Whole school problem solving strategies that rotated on a weekly basis and work toward the development of multiple thinking strategies and working on open-ended questions.
    • Show-Me Maths – An informal pre & post-testing of students’ current knowledge of numeracy concepts whereby students prove their conclusions and justify their findings.  This data informs additional focus for classroom teachers to implement supported numeracy learning in identified areas of their class.

Teachers will continue to have the opportunity of best practice teaching demonstrated in model lessons in their classrooms to support student engagement and increased understanding of concepts.

In all classrooms we are fully implementing the most recent version of the Australian Curriculum in English, Mathematics, Science, HASS, Technology, The Arts and HPE in 2023.

Your child’s teachers are working extremely hard to ensure that each and every child achieves to his/her potential.  We appreciate your ongoing support and welcome your questions, input and feedback.
