At Strathpine State School we run a playgroup 'Little Stars' every Wednesday for children aged 3-5. Younger siblings are welcome to attend. The playgroup meets in the end of the YMCA building within the school grounds.
Playgroup's programme and interactions are monitored against the 'Quality Practice Framework'.
We believe that a stimulating and beneficial programme builds on a child's prior knowledge. The programme incorporates the child's strengths and ideas but also builds on those areas that are required to benefit the child and the broader community.
Children should feel safe whilst at playgroup and the parents need to feel valued. Our routine can change, should the need arise, to benefit all attending. The environment encourages them to pursue their interest alongside activities which promote the transition to school. All adults at Playgroup interact with each other in a positive manner, demonstrating appropriate social skills to the children. All children are treated equally irrespective of culture or gender. The children are encouraged to interact with each other and explore different ideas in a safe environment. Changes in the routine are supported to allow for smooth transitions. Parents are encouraged to participate, as is the school community, to allow for the development of a smooth transition to school. Our programme constantly evolves to meet the needs of the children.
Playgroup enables children to experience activities and events prior to formal schooling within the school grounds. The children are invited to attend school events such as Under 8's day. It is also a chance for parents to gain positive experiences with an educational environment.
