Guidance Officer
Should a parent wish to access the services of the Guidance Officer a meeting needs to take place with the class teacher expressing your concerns about your child's progress. A referral will then be made to the Student Support Committee.
The Guidance Officer works at our school 2 days a week and provides the following services:
Chaplaincy
My name is Katie Campbell and I am the Chaplain at Strathpine State School.
A school chaplain's role is to provide the students, families and staff with social, emotional and spiritual support, be an additional adult role model in the school and enhance engagement with the broader community. For more information on this government initiative please follow this link https://education.qld.gov.au/students/student-health-safety-wellbeing/student-support-services/chaplaincy-student-welfare-worker-services
After working with children in education and chaplaincy the last 15 years, I have come to know that everyone goes through highs and lows in life and our children are no different. Sometimes we just need a helping hand, some good advice or just someone to talk to and care. For children, a healthy wellbeing is vital to their ability to learn and grow and a school chaplain is able to provide that support when it is needed. I can be a friend and trusted adult to talk to or offer one-on-one or small group programs for:
Self-esteem and confidence
Social skills/ Friendships/bullying
Emotional regulation/Resilience
Separation and divorce
Grief and loss
Fear and Anxiety
General wellbeing
I also run whole class programs, supported by the class teacher, in topics that line up with the schools wellbeing and anti-bullying initiatives.
I am also available to support families by connecting them to support services within the community. For all enquiries please contact the school 3482 9222 or email me at kcamp236@eq.edu.au.
The chaplaincy program is endorsed by the school's Parents and Citizens' Association and my assistance is available on a voluntary basis to all students, staff and families. Should ongoing one-on-one support be necessary, permission will always be sought from the child's parent or guardian before starting.
