Here at Strathpine State School we have a multitude of activities that students are able to be involved in that promote healthy lifestyles, extended learning, supported learning, social skills, mentoring and leadership.  Below are just a few that we have on offer.

Buddies at Strathpine State School

At Strathpine State School we run a program called Buddies. At the start of the year, Prep to Year 3 classes are paired with a Year 4 to Year 6 class. The younger students are then paired with an older student within their buddy class. Teachers plan times during the year to get together and participate in a variety of activities. These activities include buddy reading, art and craft and sports games and much more. This program is beneficial to both junior and senior students. The buddy program teaches students mentoring and gives students in our school the opportunity to form positive relationships and practise important values such as respect and care. Through looking after and caring for younger and vulnerable children, older students learn the skills associated with empathy and compassion by participating in some of the above activities. These connections flow over into the program and the positive role our seniors take on in guiding our junior students is lovely to see.

The Buddies program strengthens the school community and help students to feel heard, valued, and supported. They teach each other social skills in a caring and inclusive environment within the school. Buddies also create a connectedness within the school community and utilises the potential to increase positive social behaviour.

Our Buddies program enables younger students to feel safe and cared for while older students feel valued and respected.

Chappy Group

Year 6 Personal Development Group runs for 20 weeks during Terms 2 and 3 where the students are invited to work together as a team whilst learning new things about themselves. It is aimed at developing self confidence in the students as they prepare for High School. Through local community sponsorship this program has been running with great success since 2013.

Funky Friday is about providing a safe, fun break time activity for those who enjoy dancing to the latest Just Dance clips. Every Friday first break in the hall, students and teachers can be seen grooving to classic rock n roll through to the lasts hits.
